In 1988, Ann Powell was faced with the challenge of balancing the demands of new motherhood with the desire to have a flexible and rewarding career. She teamed with her mother, Rachael Dickerson, to create a venture that would allow the flexibility her family required and the outlet Ann needed to support her entrepreneurial spirit. It was this partnership that led to founding Taylor Made for You. The company, begun in theupstairs bedroom of Rachael's home, was named in honor of Ann's six month old son, Taylor.

Gift baskets were not a common household word in 1988 In fact, the concept of putting anything other than fruit and Hickory Farms items in a basket was virtually unknown. Ann and Rachael were off to educate everyone they met about the value of gift baskets. A large corporate order during their first holiday season was a confirmation for the team that they were on the right track. The Richmond corporate community quickly grasped the new concept of gift baskets and helped this small dream turn into a vital and thriving local business.


After twenty-two years and seven moves, Taylor Made for You now occupies 4,000 -square-feet of showroom and warehouse space. The shop carries over 2,000 items including gourmet foods, made-in-Virginia products, and specialty gift items. While most orders come via phone, fax, website, or e-mail, many customers enjoy browsing the showroom and selecting items for a custom gift. Taylor Made for You has become the leading supplier of gift baskets in the Richmond area and has been recognized as one of the Top 10 Gift Baskets Companies in America by the gift basket industry

Taylor Made for You has also become a good community partner. Their gift baskets are present at numerous silent auctions and charity events around the area as many organizations take advantage of the company's 50/50 not-for-profit donation program.
